Can Potato Crop on Sandy Soil Be Safely Irrigated with Heavy Metal Polluted Water?

چکیده

Heavy metal (HM) accumulation in soil and plants can occur when water contaminated with HMs is used as a source of irrigation (El-Salam Canal, Egypt). In this study, the effect watering potato crop sandy from polluted under flood (FI), sprinkler (SI), surface drip (DI) on transport copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) root zone was experimentally investigated. HM concentrations plant parts also determined. The field experiments were conducted completely randomized block three replicates for each method by using nine lysimeters. Soil samples collected at end growing season to determine their content. results showed that regardless method, raised both plants. DI produced highest most (Cu, Mn, Pb) upper layer (0–40 cm) Cu, Pb, Zn tubers well. Maximum concentration maximum Mn occurred SI. 12.0, 140.0, 11.6 67.9 mg/kg 6.3, 9.4, 2.3 23.9 mg/kg, respectively. However, FI deep (40–60 least tubers. These 18.8, 203.8, 13.3 70 4.0, 6.0, 0.6 17.1 Zn, lower than permissible limits. Therefore, El-Salam Canal appears not be harmful short term. shown results, depends technique; thus, more studies are needed effects long

Estimation of Nitrogen Pools in Irrigated Potato Production on Sandy Soil Using the Model SUBSTOR

Recent increases in nitrate concentrations in the Suwannee River and associated springs in northern Florida have raised concerns over the contributions of non-point sources. The Middle Suwannee River Basin (MSRB) is of special concern because of prevalent karst topography, unconfined aquifers and sandy soils which increase vulnerability of the ground water contamination from agricultural operat...

The Chemophytostabilisation Process of Heavy Metal Polluted Soil

Industrial areas are characterised by soil degradation processes that are related primarily to the deposition of heavy metals. Areas contaminated with metals are a serious source of risk due to secondary pollutant emissions and metal leaching and migration in the soil profile and into the groundwater. Consequently, the optimal solution for these areas is to apply methods of remediation that cre...

Effects of deposition of heavy-metal-polluted harbor mud on microbial diversity and metal resistance in sandy marine sediments.

Deposition of dredged harbor sediments in relatively undisturbed ecosystems is often considered a viable option for confinement of pollutants and possible natural attenuation. This study investigated the effects of deposition of heavy-metal-polluted sludge on the microbial diversity of sandy sediments during 12 months of mesocosm incubation. Geochemical analyses showed an initial increase in po...

Simulation of heat and water transfer in a surface irrigated, cropped sandy soil

Field experiments were conducted to validate a one-dimensional numerical Simple Soil Plant Atmospheric Transfer (SiSPAT) model that simulates heat and water transfer through the root zone of a surface irrigated, cropped sandy soil. The model accounts for the dominant processes involved in water and heat transfer in a cropped soil. Model validation used field experimental data from 2004 and sugg...

Effects of Soil Moisture and Nickel Contamination on Microbial Respiration Rates in Heavy Metal-Polluted Soils

Soil microorganisms may be both sensitive and resilient to various disturbances. The effects of a single stressor on soil microorganisms have been well studied, but only limited research has been carried out to test the effects of simultaneous action of diverse stressors. Soil samples were collected from a long-term polluted zinc and lead site and an unpolluted site. Modeling studies assumed sp...
